Welcome to the new Lobel’s Culinary Club.

In the years since we launched our Web site and online butcher shop, the Lobel’s Culinary Club has become the cornerstone of our communications with our customers old and new. Our e-mails span the latest news about products and promotions to help you plan peak dining experiences for family meals, special events, and casual entertaining.

A fundamental part of the Culinary Club content comes from our unique perspective as butchers on meat handling and preparation. And while there are many recipes to share, we want to help you go beyond specific recipes to a wider world of in-depth explorations of cooking techniques. When you understand the fundamentals, you are free to invent your own culinary masterpieces.

We believe the more you know about preparing the finest meat money can buy, the more you will enjoy serving it to your family and friends.

Pigskin party? Bring on the bacon!

This is the time of year when it seems that parties abound. Between Thanksgiving and Super Sunday, there are family parties, holiday gatherings, new year celebrations, play-off festivities, and so on. We’re always in need of quick, easy, and delicious party foods to keep the crowds of friends and family happy.

When it comes to a football party, casual and bite-size are two of the main requirements. The third main requirement? The menu must include bacon, of course.

Just Add Bacon

Everything is better with bacon. Why have plain cheeseburgers when you can have bacon cheeseburgers? Need a flavor booster for stew? Add some diced bacon as it simmers. Treating the crew to homemade macaroni and cheese? Add bacon! Here are two recipes to try: Gruyere Bacon Mac & Cheese and Smoky Bacon Mac.

For crowd-pleasing finger foods, try Spinach, Artichoke, and Bacon Stuffed Beer Soft Pretzels, Bacon Double Cheeseburger Pull Apart Bread, or Bacon Cheddar Ranch Pull Apart Bread.

For a slightly more elegant presentation, try bacon-wrapped appetizers, such as Bacon-Wrapped Potatoes, Bacon-Wrapped Dates Stuffed with Almonds, Green Bean Bundles with Bacon and Brown Sugar, Bacon-Wrapped Scallions, or Bacon-Wrapped Potato Bites with Spicy Sour Cream Dipping Sauce.

Zesty Garlic, Fruitwood Bacon & Cheddar Pinwheels

One of the ubiquitous party appetizer recipes found in all your corners of the Internet is Pillsbury’s Bacon-Cheddar Pinwheels. Bite-size, gooey with cheese, chock-full of bacon—what’s not to love?

We’ve taken this popular recipe and put our own spin on it with some of our favorite products.

Ingredients

1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls or 1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® Crescent Recipe Creations® refrigerated seamless dough sheet
1 tablespoon Bittersweet Herb Farm Zesty Garlic Seasoning
2 tablespoons sour cream
4 slices Fruitwood Smoked Uncured Bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
1/2 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup chopped green onions

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. If using crescent rolls: Unroll dough; separate into 2 long rectangles. Press each into 12×4-inch rectangle, firmly pressing perforations to seal. If using dough sheet: Unroll dough; cut lengthwise into 2 long rectangles. Press each into 12×4-inch rectangle.
  2. Stir together seasoning and sour cream, and spread over each rectangle to edges. Sprinkle each with bacon, cheddar cheese, and onions. Starting with one short side, roll up each rectangle; press edge to seal. With serrated knife, cut each roll into 8 slices; place cut side down on ungreased cookie sheet.
  3. Bake 12 to 17 minutes or until edges are deep golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Serve warm.
